Plymouth MA- trip help

Thinking about a trip from Kinston NC to Plymouth MA in mid September.
We would like to avoid Washington DC, Philadelphia and New York City.
We don't want to drive over 400 mi per day. Also need recommendations for a cg on the way. We plan on leaving Plymouth and go to Gettysburg on our way home.
The only thing that I am concerned about for this trip is the traffic.
Thanks in advance.

Alex

The route is easy I/77 to I/81 to I/84 to I/90 to I/495. Can't help on campgrounds because our spacing is different.

Plymouth MA- trip help

Wing trike, Cousin Ed has the right idea, but he doesn't realize where Kinston is.

From your location forget I-77. Get on I-95 near Wilson to either I-64 at Richmond or US17 just above Fredericksburg. Cut over to I-81 on one of these routes (the US17/US29/US50 route will be all very good road and many miles shorter) then I-81 to I-84 at Scranton, to I-90 (Mass Pike), I-495 south, and then US44 east into Plymouth. This will bring you around DC, Philly, NYC.

An alternative for you, being in Kinston, would be to go up through Norfolk, then the CB Bridge Tunnel and US13 up to Wilmington. But that would mean the NJ Tpke, which isn't really as bad as most people think, as long as you cut off well before NYC.

The first route is probably what you want.

When able, I'll check on places we've stopped in eastern PA, which will likely be your 400 mile halfway point. I do know there's a very nice Boston/Cape Cod KOA on Rt 44 in Middleborough, MA, only 15 miles of excellent road from Plymouth. We stayed there for 2 months last year when our granddaughter was born.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the very helpful info guys! Yes we live in eastern NC. Printing out the directions and will probably exit 95 at Fredericksburg VA and head over to I-81. We have been that way several times on our way to western PA.This is such an awesome sight with lots of help for various items.

HAGD,

Alex
