Pocono Raceway Campground

I'm thinking about taking the motorhome to see a NASCAR race in early June. After doing a little research I was able to find out that you can either boondock at the racetrack or stay a their "official"campground about a mile away. The campground has 50 amp, sewer, and water.

In looking at RVParkreviews, there were only 3 reviews of the campground. They were very not good at all and but not very recent either. Actually one review was pretty awful...

What I am hoping to find out is if anyone's stayed at the campground in Long Pond in the past couple of years... how their camping experience was, and any advise.

It's difficult for me to imagine that with all the people that go and camp at a NASCAR race, only 3 people (over several years) took the time to review their experience on RVParkreviews...

I've gone to other race tracks, and know what a looney bin camping life can be around the track... That is why the campground about a mile away sounds a little more "civilized"?

Hi There -

I've never been to that campground (for the same reasons as you're finding - no real feedback on it), but we did take a chance and stay at the "Family Grandstand Camping" area outside of turn 3 for the first time last August. It was really great!

Plenty of room and not at all crazy (which I also don't like - and research to avoid). This area had a nice crowd. I would highly recommend, and we'll be back again. They let us pick our own spot when we drove in. Spots get tighter together as you approach the track grandstand area, but still very do-able.

There is a bus that runs through this area that will drop you off/pick you up at the grandstand, and also take you into the infield (TV broadcasts, shops, food, etc.). You just flag it down, and it stops. We took the bus to our seats and also walked - no problem. We had a lot of fun going into the infield during one of the afternoons via bus. They run fairly regularly, so no issues with flagging one down.

Everyone camping at Pocono has to "check in" (there's an area as soon as you make the left into the track off of that main road. You check in, get wrist bands, they walk through your RV for a safety check, and you're on your way). If you stay in that Family Grandstand area, nobody gets in or out without a car pass and they do check every car that comes into that area, so if you have visitors, you need to make those arrangements ahead of time at the check in.

It was a great experience and I would definitely recommend. If you'd like more info, send me a PM and I will be happy to provide. We're season ticket holders here and at a few other tracks.

Hope this helps!

Happy Camping
