We usually stay about 10 miles south of Quartzsite on BLM land. You can't miss the area. Hundreds of RVs.

Some friends were there a couple days ago and said the vendors are setting up shop. For a first-timer it would probably be better to get there before it fills up just to get a feel for it. It can be a real zoo when it's in full swing. You can walk faster than you can drive during the RV Show.

We are in Bouse (25 miles or so from Q). When we went into Q a few days ago there were only a few RVs out on the desert on Plomosa road north of town. There were quite a few vendors set up in town.

It sure seems like there were a lot fewer people here in Nov and Dec than in past years. However we have been seeing a lot RVs heading this way from Parker so maybe it will pick up.

We are meeting some friends for lunch in Q today so will get another look at what is going on.

Here is Lukea's report from yesterday:

We arrived in Quartzsite on Jan. 2nd. I ran out to our site in La Posa South yesterday. The only rigs parked in our area are the old prospector and a new prospector. There are more rigs in the area than at this time last year. Weather is running 65 day and 34 night.

Propane was $3.03/gal with tax, at the Pit Stop. Diesel is running $3.85/gal. around town. Several new restaurants are open.

Desert Gardens Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show is up and running with a full complement of rock dealers.

The QIA Pow Wow is Jan. 23-27th.

Tyson Wells Rock & Gem Show is Jan. 4-13th

Tyson Wells Sell-a-Rama is Jan 18-29th

Big Tent is Jan. 19-27th

Big Tent Craft Show is Jan 30- Feb. 3rd

Big Tent Classic Car Show Feb 2&3rd

Tyson Wells Arts & Crafts Fair Feb. 1-11th

New this year is a GPAA Gold and Treasure Expo at the QIA building. They have over 30+ vendors signed up and will have various classes on prospecting, dry washers, metal detecting, etc. Looks like a good addition.

There is a lot more entertainment scheduled in town.

The is a new restaurant in Blythe that looks good. It has been open two months and has four stars on Yelp. www.redcactusbarandgrill.com It is in the old Maria's building on S. Lovekin Blvd.

If anyone wants any specific info before you get here, let me know.

The desert out there is huge, I can't imagine you would never not find a place to camp. After you camp a night you can drive around the next day and move if another piece of desert looks better for you. I've been there many , many times and have spent many years Boondocking all over the So Cal deserts too

We will be there on the 18th. We stay out in Scadden (Sp?) Wash, east of Tyson Wells corner past the LDS church. It is BLM land, free, but no services whatsoever(pack it in, pack it out). However, the drive into town is much quicker(less traffic) from there vs. having to come north on 95 from the LTVA's south of town. The one stop light at Tyson Wells intersection is a bugger during January. It tapers off after the big tent show. Enjoy your time there, it is a hoot!
