We have been spending the winter months in Florida for the last 7yrs. In 2012 we are considering Az in January. We have been to Az. but never in the winter and never in Quartzite.
I would appreciate any comments, advice, stories, experiences from those that have done this. Also has anyone been to Lk. powell in the winter?

Lake Powell in the winter can be very cold and windy. It snows there and rains there. I love the lake but not in the winter or spring, the winds in the spring are incredible.

You might want to check out Havasu. We have never stayed in Quartzite either but passed thru several times and know that if you decide to go, you will not be by yourselves. You will be a bit rural. The place is not Pheonix.

We stopped in Quartzsite a couple of years ago for 9 days of boondocking in the desert during the Big Show. IMO, every RVer should experience Quartzsite at least once. It helps to hook up with a group if you can for your first trip. It was a big help to us in knowing where to stay, where to go, where to get water, where to dump, etc.

That being said, we really didn't see any real bargains at the shows of flea markets, and it was windy and dusty some of the time. But it is a real sight to come up over the last hill before Quartzsite and see the white dots of RVs spreading out across the desert as far as the eye can see. And the sunsets are gorgeous.

BTW, Quartzite is the mineral, Quartzsite is the town. The town was named for the mineral, but due to a misspelling in the early days, the name of the town is officially Quartzsite.
