We are coming in from the east so from what I can see " Scaddan wash blm" will be the first camp we encounter and it seems to be close. Has anyone stayed at the Scaddan wash? does it fill up or is it large enough that we can just drive in and find a nice wide open space to park?

Scaddan wash has plenty of room. There may be quite a few rv's in there, but don't worry, lots of space, still a bit of a walk, the Rose rv park for 7/night is alot closer.. You could also contact Rice Ranch, they added lots of rv hookups last year, and a lot were not used. It is right there in the center of all the shopping. Not sure if you need to be a vendor, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Good luck and have a great trip. Dona

one more question regarding dog poop. When staying on blm land what do you do with your doggies poop? I'm guessing there are no trash bins..... in keeping with the topic at hand I could add that we do not have a toad to carry the trash away.. perhaps I will have to bag it and keep it in a bay compartment ugggggh

Why would you want to be close to town? There isn't a whole lot there and there are swaps and gems all over the place...good advise on exit 11 and look for the El Monte Trailer Trash club.

Want to be close to town because we don't have a toad and would like to attend the RV show. Dumpsters at the free sections of blm land? or more then likely the paid sections?

BLM land

If you brought your ATV's you can stay further away on BLM land almost free then drive your ATV to the tent area-There is always somebody that would let you park your atv by their site while you are shopping around-rich

No ATVs here. Just two mountain bikes. We will ride them into town, lock em up and do the rest on foot.

No, there are no dumpsters in the free areas. Everyone stores their garbage until they can get to the disposals. The trash collection site is on Hwy 95 about 3 miles north of I-10 on the left. We've stayed at Scaddan Wash and if you get a spot right at the beginning you could possibly walk to town if you're fit.

Any way you could bring your towed vehicle? It would be a lot easier for you.

Was asking about the dumpsters because of our dog poop but as it turns out our dog wont be making the trip so the rest of our garbage we will simply hold on to.

We both walk miles per day so the distance should not be a problem and we have the bikes.

If this will work, zoom in at Q and all the land south within a mile of the big tent is free camping. Take the Q exit from either east or west and go thru town to 95 then south and start looking as soon as you see desert again, 100's upon 100s of site and walking or biking distance.
And you are welcome at the Monaco RV bunch and we will get you to the show. Just look in the Monaco group for the Q thread for contacts and dirrections.

If it works here's a map of Q;;;;

Scaddan wash seems to be the closest advertised free section to town. I use google earth with street level view. Thanks for the help and kind offer.

I've been going to "Q" for quite some time and always stay at La Posa West, it's BLM and there is a $40 fee to get in for a 2 week stay. I'm not aware of and free spots within walking distance. Like others have said, go in the entrance then work your way back towards the big tent, should be an easy walk from there. It's quite the experience, you should have a good time.
