Question about NC State Parks in the Outer Banks

Do the NC State Parks along the Outer Banks generally have dump facilities and fresh water available for filling tanks? Their web site has very little information beyond 'no hookups'. Also for a pre-season trip (April-May) are reservations mandatory or are you likely to find something? (small rig, will fit anywhere.)

Thanks,

Yes, there are dump stations and fresh water available. As far as availability, it depends on the weather. Usually you can get sites in May, but if its pretty weather, I'd check the website.

OBX Camping

The campgrounds on the Outer Banks (OBX) are private or Federal. No State Park campgrounds. There are Federal campgrounds at Oregon Inlet, Cape Hatteras (lighthouse) and at Ocracoke. All of these are bare bones campgrounds, but are very close to the beach. The Ocracoke campground has walking access to the beach. The others require driving (and a driving permit!) to access. Check out the Cape Hatteras National Seashore for info on these parks.

There are a couple of large private campgrounds in Rodanthe, and a couple of smaller ones in Avon and in Buxton.

Hmmm, right you are, they are indeed part of the National Park Service, not NC State Parks. I did realize that they are bare bones/dry camping, just wanted to verify that fresh water and a dump station are available.
