I posted a query earlier asking if anyone has stayed at "Shady Oaks" near lake Charles. I received a PM that the name was "Quiet Oaks between Lake Charles and Kinder, LA. We are planning to stay in the area for several weeks and do genealogy research so we are looking for something quiet and shady. Has anyone stayed here that can give me a "heads-up"?

Dick,
When we are in L/C area we stay at Sam Houston Jones State Park. It is close to town and has been clean and quiet. Most of the sites in the "New" section are shaded and all are paved sites. The "old" section the sites are shaded but the sites are gravel and are for small rigs and tents.

Thanks a lot 4travlin. My wife Judy and I are very familiar with SHJ and it truley is a beautiful park. We are from Lake Charles originally and have stayed there several times over the past few months. However, we have not really spent any time (mostly weekends) in the area. Quiet Oaks is listed as a CCUSA park and a C of A Park and offer 1/2 price rates to members. We're retired now, on a "budget", and I want to check on some family property not far from there and do some genealogy research. It used to be said that wisdom was learning from someone else's mistakes, not your own. I guess I'm trying to borrow on that principle.
