Rafter J Bar in Hill City SD

We are planning a week long stay close to Mt. Rushmore. The week selected is the third week in May. We have tentatively selected the Rafter J Bar to stay at. Can anyone give me some first hand information about this "Camping Resort". Anyone having experience camping in this area with knowledge of campgrounds in the area please tell me of your stay.

You won't be disappointed. It's got large sites, mature trees, and great amenities. Very close to big box stores in Rapid City.

Two other great options are Elk Ridge in Spearfish and Rafter J Bar Ranch in Hill City.

We stayed there a couple of years ago; great park and close to Rushmore. You won't be disappointed.

We really enjoyed our stay there and the staff was very accommodating when I got sick with a cold and they found us another site to stay a few more days even though they was full with a rally at the time.

I would for sure return

The Rafter J Bar has always been our first choice on our many trips to the Black Hills. Its a beautiful facility and perfectly located for taking in the sites. No doubt you will enjoy.

We stay at Rafters J last June. Loved the site off to the left in the tall pines. Could see the whole valley. It a must to take driving tour . Do it backwards starting at the Needles first . There are three driving tours. It you go thru the needle, close to campground the you come out at thru the last tunnel on the third tour and can see Mt Rushmore thru the tunnel . Great photo op.

Great place to stay. We've been twice and plan on going again in the future. Good base point.

We've stayed there and loved it. Large spaces and in a good location to see the sites around the Black Hills.

Great place and great location. Close to town, yet not in town. Right at the back door to Custer State Park, Crazy Horse and Rushmore. Very well kept, clean, friendly - we have stayed there twice over the past two summers.
