Recommendation for Grand Canyon/Williams for Xmas
Hello All,
Diane has never seen the GC and I have never been there during the winter so I thought we would head up that way over Xmas and we need some input for some campgrounds.
12/23 Redlands, CA-Needles, CA
12/24 Needles, CA- GC or Williams<,AZ
12/26 GC or Williams' AZ through Sedona to Cottonwood, AZ
12/28 Cottonwood, AZ- Blythe, CA
12/29 Blythe, Ca-Redlands
Thanks,
Jim, Diane and Miss Emmy the Graybador

As you live "out west" you're aware of Needles gas prices? We note it is in the $4.00 neighborhood now. A year ago we went thru and found it @ $4.75. The next exit east (16 miles) was almost $2.00 less!!!
With only 2 days to visit the park, we would stay in the park. Days are short and riding the train or driving both ways from Williams wouldn't leave much time for the park.
Assume you've driven the road south to Sedona? Exciting in a MH in perfect weather - impassable in moisture (at least for us).

I don't know your planned route from Cottonwood to Blythe, but don't under any circumstances, try to take SR-89A through Jerome in your RV!!! If it were me, I'd take SR-260 to I-17.

We stayed here three years ago. The Train to the Canyon goes right by the RV Park. They provide a shuttle to the Depot in town.

Thank you all. May have to rethink this a bit. How is the road (89) from Ash Fork to Prescott then into Wickenburg? We would rather stay in the park. Our toad may not make it out of the shop before we leave and we have Miss Emmy so we don't want to be driving the moho from Williams to the GC each day.

89 to Prescott is fine. I wouldn't go on to Wickenburg though, very tight turns west of Prescott.

Highway 89 between Prescott and Kirkland junction is restricted to 30 ft. max. length. Hwy. 180 may be closed without warning at any time because of snow. Closed for three days last week.
There is a nice KOA in Needles, nothing fancy but clean and reasonably priced.
Railside in Williams is a nice camprround, there is also a KOA just outside town.
There is an RV park in Valle called Flintstones, about 20 miles north of Williams on 64, I have no info on accomidations.
If your rig is over 30 ft. I would not take 89-A through Sedona, very steep winding road.

We went through there this morning going north. Snow everywhere but the roads were clear. You are right about the road (89a) being exciting. We are now sitting just outside of Barstow waiting for the 40 mph winds to die down. At least it isn't as cold. Sedona was fantastic. Heading home in the morning.
