Recommendations for a campground near Oklahoma City?
Looks like we'll be taking our MH to Port Aransas, TX for Christmas. It's a 19-hour drive from Iowa, so we'll do it in two days -- and it looks like Oklahoma City is about half-way.
Just looking for a nice, clean, cheap overnight stay somewhere not too far off the freeway. Any recommendations?
And, while, I'm at it, can anyone recommend a campground in Port A?
Thanks!

I have one to avoid. Rockwell RV park. When you sign the check-in form it states " This campground is subject to flooding". We arrived about 5pm, were parked on the back row with the long-term sites(all gravel). There was trash about the place and a very old, unused garden hose at the back of our space. I was told that was the last available space, but 4 spaces in front of us were vacant all night.

There are about 15 campgrounds in the Port Aransas area those by Corpus I wouldn't recommend most of them on the Port Aransas island are surrounded by sand dunes and so they end up looking like flat mobile home parks, I prefer to stay off the island except to go fishing on the fleet.
My favorite is Sea Breese RV park in Portland right on CC bay and you can see the city from your rig

I need to be on the island, so that I'm within walking distance of the property we're inspecting. A realtor buddy in Port A recommends 2 RV parks on the island: Tropic and Island RV. They're both near the ferry. Anyone got a "thumb's up" or "thumb's down" on either of them?
Thanks!

Just found this post so this information may come to you too late for your use going away from home but could be used on your returm trip.
At Shawnee, OK we stayed at the Firelake Grand Casino on the Shawnee Indian Reservation. All sites there were paved and big long back-ins with 50 amp electrical service and water. They are not numbered and when you get there just take any available site. Then get a shuttle to the casino’s main entrance, go to the gift shop and get a permit. You can stay up to three nights free with the permit. The sites are large enough to get all your slides out and long enough to stay connected. When you leave you can get 3 cents per gal of fuel discount at the service station. Very good information about the casino and pictures of the RV sites can be found in the web page below.
