My wife and I have been mostly weekend rv'ers for 4 months.(still working). We have a 11 day vacation coming up in october.

We live in the Melbourne,Fl. area and are looking to go to georgia.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this trip. We are willing to go where ever our MH takes us.

Looking forward to our first long trip.

If you want north Ga. you might try River Vista Resort in Dillard Ga. right off US441

Very nice CG in the edge of the mountains.

On our trip last year we stayed at Leisure Acres in Cleveland, GA. Very nice park close to Helen and our Granddaughter.

River vista is nice in far north ga and eat at the Dillard house if you are real hungry. Stone mountain is very nice and has dollywood attractions . Lake Lanier has several corps. Parks. There are state parks with golf coarses. There are plenty of nice parks It depends on your destination and what you are interested in.

Blythe Island Regional Park near Brunswick, GA is one of my favorites. Its a Glynn County park just north of the FL/GA line near I95. Full hookups (including CATV and WiFi) laundry, beach, canoe rental, fresh and salt water fishing and lots of hiking trails.

GA has lots of nice state parks too. Skidaway and Ft McAllister near Savannah are two more of my favorites.

We have workamped in GA. One year was at Pine Mtn GA, at FD Roosevelt SP. Great little park, electric hookups, fall colors peaked Nov 1 when we were there. So if you go in Oct weekends may be busy. Nearby is Calloway Gardens, Warm Springs NHS, Columbus GA has a good civil war naval museum and Ft. Benning Army museum. Also there is a newer higher end MH park, was a KOA but is being redone.

Last year we were at GA Vet SP near Cordele GA. BEAUTIFUL PARK. Even has Cable TV!! We worked on the SAM Shortline RR excursion train which can be boarded in the park. ALso has Resort hotel with a very nice restaurant. Nearby is Americus, where Habitat for Humanity has a global village display. Plains GA is small and underwhelming, but does boast as being the home of Jimmy Carter. Cordele/Plains are very much rural GA but make nice stops. Andersonville NHS is a historic site of great significance, and they have a POW Museum that will tear you up emotionally, so be prepared.

Georgia Power has several campgrounds around the state, and I have not stayed in any. but we asked (workamping options) and they appeared to be nice. Look at their website for more info. There was a campground at Lake Juliette which was near where Fried Green Tomatoes was filmed. Juliette GA still has a Whistle Stop Cafe!

Oh, yes, Warner Robbins GA has a great FREE Air Museum, it's 5 or so miles off of I-75 but is a good stop.

Savannah GA is good, Skidaway SP is nearby and a very very popular park. Tybee Island 20 min from Savannah has a city-run park but since you are from Melbourne I would guess ocean access and seafood aren't a big draw

There are some nice private campgrounds around the state, up in the mountains N of Atlanta. But don't overlook Georgia State Parks.

You might just catch the leaves. Cloudland State Park is very nice. You really can't beat most of the Georgia State Parks. Some even have nice golf courses if you're into Golf.

If you like beach then Jekyll Island is another nice alternative. Full hookup state park and lots to do in the area (biking, fishing, eating, history) For pooch the beach and fishing pier nearest the park is paw friendly. We had a blast when we stayed there.

stay at river bend camp ground in hiwassee. right beside a clear mountain stream, they have the ga. moutain fair'festival there in oct. and this is really nice, they have entertainment twice a day, quality crafts and food, helen is just down the road. i'd say definitely visit n. ga in oct., beautiful leaves, quaint shops, waterfalls galore an just so nice an area to visit.

Forsyth,Ga. southeast of Atlanta. I stayed here back in 06. It was nice and kinda out of the way.Owned by the electric company

River Vista in Dillard is very nice. There are several other campgrounds in the area also. This is a great section of GA, right next to the NC border. It is convenient to Franklin and Highlands, NC. It is also an easy drive to Helen, GA. Helen is a good place to float down the river. Good way to spend an afternoon without a big price. We use the first place on the right coming into town to rent our tubes. -- From the Melbourne area, it is approx 600 mi. That is a 2 day trip for us. I would recommend breaking up the trip with a stop in southern GA for the night.

Highlands is always 10-15 degrees cooler than Atlanta! Wish I was there, today.

We love Trackrock Campground near Blairsville, Ga. It is more like a Nat. Forest, with nice shady sites. You can get more info at www.trackrock.com

Try Stone Mountain. There is a lot to do there and you are also close to the east side of Atlanta. Restaurants are great, any kind you desire. The Georgia Aquarium is a great place to visit. Atlanta has a lot to offer.
