Recommended places to stay in Sedona Az

Hi Folks
We will be traveling to Sedona Az this spring and I am looking for a nice place to stay for a few days. Main requirements are... close to town, full hook ups and doggie friendly.

Can any of you recommend a nice RV park in this area?

Try Rancho Sedona Rv Park. We stayed there for a week, it's close to town has everything you need. Very clean as well. Just be sure if you decide to stay there to book in advance as it fills up quickly.

Although not right in town but still an easy scenic drive to Sedona is Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood. We stay there all the time when we want to visit Sedona.

Flagstaff is close by but can be COLD in the winter. Try Black Bart's RV, steak house, bar and musical review. It's a blast!

How close is 'close'? There are lots of places in the area. Some are right in town, some are in nearby towns.

Thanks for the info. My wife is attending a mulitday conference in Sedona in March. The conference is cool in the fact they do all the 'conference stuff' in the morning so that folks can spend the rest of the day tooling around Sedona. So we really want to be close the conference area. The conference area is literally less than 500 feet from the Ranch Sedona RV park that Cyndar mentioned and I will try to get a spot there.

We just stayed there for 6 nights two,weeks ago, clean, quite but fills up quickly. If possible get a spot by the river 3 times bigger spots length and width. We were in the circle area and the spaces are narrow with trees in the wrong place for slides.

It's funny how each of us can have a very different experience.

We stayed at Black Bart's about a month ago while travelling through Flagstaff doing Route 66 and for us, it was one of the worse parks we experienced on that 7,500 mile, 2.5 month excursion.

We arrived at Black Bart's early in the day, prior to the checkout time. When asked about available sites the lady at the desk informed us that she did not know who had pulled out yet and who had not. She stated I was welcome to go walk around and see what was available. Her lack of interest frustrated me and I suggested that may be her job, not mine. She then glanced out the window and said "Site X, across the driveway, is available." Wow, that sure took a lot of effort.

After we were setup I wanted to check my email before venturing out to tour the Flagstaff area in our toad. I then discovered that despite their advertisement saying they had wi-fi, they did not. Back at the office, the lady, now joined by a second young lady, informed me that they used to have wi-fi but their provider cut their service. Upon asking why they had not simply gotten another provider they stated the tried but their park was too large and covered by too many trees. In fact this is not a large park and not that heavily treed - certainly not the slightest issue that could not be addressed with one or two repeaters. I was able to access the wi-fi from a Super 8 motel across I-40 - a distance far greater than the RV park and the other side of a grove of trees.

In addition to the poor service, the park was heavily populated by permanent rigs, all gravel and generally very poorly maintained. Our sewer connect was broken off below ground level. It appeared that prior users had simply pulled the remnant of the connector out of the ground and stuck their hose end into the residual hole in the ground. We chose not to connect our sewer that night rather than deal with the disgusting service fixture (or lack of) or going back to the office to disturb the ladies again.

In all fairness we pulled in after dark, there was about 9" of snow on the ground and we just about had the place to ourselves. I was just happy to be off the road. We never did see anyone in the office and we left after the posted opening time.
The kick in the pants was the steak house in the RV park. Good food and the employees all took turns on stage singing. Busboys and manager included. I guess they hire from the local university. We were just there the one night and then headed south to warmer temps.

We stayed at "Distant Drums" last spring for 2 nights and it was great! Nice people, very clean and sharp. Good price and close to the interstate. David

If you're doing Sedona, you HAVE to visit Chapel of the Holy Cross. It is one beautiful structure designed by Marguerite Brunswig Staude ...with consultation from Frank Lloyd Wright.

And try to visit some of the vortices for a spiritual uplift!

I've heard good thing about Rancho Sedona, but took a drive thru last time I visited Sedona and was not impressed, nice shade trees, but that was about it, although it may be the nicest rv park in the immediate area. I have not found a nicer place than Distant Drums RV Park in Northern Arizona, and price @ $35 a night, you can't go wrong. I recall Sedona being within 30 min of Distant Drum RV Park. Cliff Castle Casino is next door to Distant Drums with a free shuttle 24/7.

OP wanted to be close to town, FHU, dog friendly. Rancho is for sure close to downtown has FHU and dog friendly.
