Reno attractions

We were in Reno two years ago and saw Carson City, Truckee and of course enjoyed the drive around the lake. We will be there again AG's was hoping for some more out of the way spots.

We are interested mostly in the natural life and the historic small towns. We aren't urban, casino or resort fans.

If you want to visit a really cool little town in the Carson Valley, Google
Genoa.

We recently enjoyed seeing the ruins of Fort Churchill, about an hour east of Carson City.

Do you have to stay in Reno?

Bodie Ghost Town is very interesting down by Lee Vining and also the drive from Lee Vining to Yosemite (not right now though - check road/weather). Also, Fallon Nat'l Wildlife Refuge. Farther south is Devil's Postpile Nat'l Monument and Mammoth Lakes.

Reading these blog entries and campground reviews on the area might help:

We second the visit to Genoa. Terrific town and I believe Genoa is the oldest town in the Nevada territory. Fun place.
