Rental to Big Bend - limited timeframe

DW and I are just starting research for full time RV when we retire in 10 years.

DW said yesterday she really wants to go to Big Bend.

I can rent a Class A from March 19-24 for $2,000 including all the miles, taxes, etc.

We would drive from Dallas/Ft.Worth to San Angelo (parents) to stay one night... then, on to Big Bend.

We would have about 3 days at the park and then do same on return trip stopping in San Angelo.

Each day would be no more than 300 miles driving. Total miles each way is about 550.

My concern is that we will be spending many days "on the road" and only 3 "at the park" - does that seem like a good investment of $2,000?

The other plan would be to wait 1 year till debts are paid off and get a $25,000 RV that we could use for mini-trips over the next 10 years... ultimately trading it in or up over the years.

So, would you do the rental or just wait 10 months and buy something?

I would rent. We did the same thing back in October. We weren't sure about RVing so we felt like it would give us a chance to try it out without jumping in with both feet. We had a blast. Bought the motorhome when we got home. Can't wait til our next trip

I like your rental plan . . .

When you are RVing, the journey is as fun as the destination!

For actually only 3 days of camping in Big Bend, I would recommend waiting 10 months. That's a lot of money for 3 days.

disregard this trip.

We are not able to go out of town for Spring Break.

So, looks like I'll check into this again in 10 months.
