Rest stop overnight

I’ve heard several people talk about quick overnights in rest stops, but when I check the legality, there are few states that permit it..

What states enforce no overnight in the truck parking area?

What states have a record for heavy enforcement of no overnighting?

I have yet to have a problem staying overnight in rest areas. They say "No Camping" in some, but I'm not camping. I'm getting a few hours rest so I can safely drive.

IME, if you look like you’re resting, no problem, anywhere.

If you look like you’re camping, you’ll be asked to move along.

I've slept in rest areas all over east of the Mississippi and never had an issue. The truckers there aren't playing canasta, they're sleeping. If by chance you do get hassled just explain that you were so tired it was a safety issue and that you will move along immediately. That said, if you're a light sleeper they're not for you, trucks come and go all night. Personally I wouldn't worry about it.

Most states have a 4 hr to 8 hr stay limit. Resting is slides in nothing outside rig.

When the signs say "no camping" they often refer to tent camping.

Slides in and levelers up you shouldn't have a problem unless the area has a very short time limit. However, if you're on the Indiana toll road (and probably other toll roads as well) and spend more than a certain number of hours you will be charged the entire length of the toll road, regardless of how far you actually drove.

One interesting note, some states (like Ohio) have RV hookups for a very reasonable fee at some of their tollway rest areas.

We have traveled the mid west.
And those states you list for many years.

We have rested 20 minutes to 8 hours or so at all times day and night.

Never a problem.
Rest
Dont camp
We have never put a slide out.
But see some that do.

I have found that the rest stops that don't want you to stay very long put up a four hour time limit. Oregon, I believe, has an eight hour time limit in the rest stops.

As so many travels say, if you are getting a few hours rest just leave the slides in and don't set up camp. We have put the slide out to make and eat dinner then retract before we retire to the bedroom to be get a few hours sleep.

There are a lot of other places to get a good nights rest other than a rest stop. Our favorites are casinos, I like the buffet and my SO doesn't have to cook or do dishes.

I stay in rest areas all the time and have never been hassled. I think that most state troopers would rather have you sleep in a rest area rather than fall asleep on the highway. If you are still worried about it then use a truck stop for a nap.

Do note some out west close at night. They often have a gate barring entry/exit. So careful on planning should you extend your travels west.

We have slept at some rest areas. In states that have restrictions we ask. If there is no one to ask, we move on,
