We are looking to be spending this winter along the Rio Grande... down toward Mission / Brownsville. We have a 38' 5th wheel.... looking for some nice spots... Any ideas from anyone ? Would like a site that is not bumped up right next to the nieghbor. Also how is the pollen counts in that part of the country ?

We spent Jan/Feb/Mar 08 in Donna,TX. If you don't mind a gentle breeze almost daily(30mph is a gentle breeze there), blowing dust most of the time, it's a great place to spend a winter. The cost of living is much cheaper than FL, and the permanent residents of the RGV are quite happy to have winter Texans prop up their economy, unlike FL.
You will find RV parks from <$250/mo to RV resorts >$600/mo, depending upon your lifestyle.
To investigate the RGV more read any "snowbirds" forum you find.

Ray, that gentle breeze is refered to as a SEA BREEZE and is wonderful. The closer you are to the coast, the more wind you have.
It is getting to the point that us Texans have trouble finding weekend spots along the coast due tot he large population of "Winter-Texans". Just be sure and leave a few site open for those of us that are not retired.

I highly recommend Texas Trails at Pharr. Very convenient to just about anywhere in the valley, just a few miles from the only Flying J in the valley. Straight shot down 281 from the north and there you are. They are a Wlder resort and have many nice amennities. Lots to do or nothing to do. Lots of trees and there is a wide space between the back of each row to the next one. Indoor and outdoor pools, WiFi in the clubhouse. They provide a nice 45 pax bus for cheap day trips to Mexico and around, pickup there in the camp. Two nice clean reasonably priced laundries and lots of Mid-western retireees from WI,CA, MN, IL, and places north. We were so impressed with the nice folks that 1 month this year has turned into a reservation for two months next year. Just remember when you make your reservation, you want a North door so your outside Patio will be in the shade most of the day. Also, IMHO, the Upper vallet is nicer and newer than the BVille Area. Lots to do and see, tons of very economical restaurants, Camping world and just about anything you could want. See you there.
