1) What are the differences between the three classifications of campsites?

You'll fit on any of the RV sites with a 31' rig. For the most part,
the Preferred and Premium sites will give you more paved elbow room.
You may also want to check the location, within the campground of,
each loop.

2) How much in advance will we need to reserve a site (hopefully with satellite reception)?

I'd make reservations as soon as you can firm up your travel dates.
You'll also want to consider making reservations at any Disney park
restaurants you may want to visit as soon as you can (within 6
months of your visit)

3) What is the best location/website to make the reservation?

I'd make them right on the Disney site, or call Disney

4) Are there any deals out there besides the rates posted on the Ft. Wilderness website?

On rare occasions AAA may be able to get a limited number of
"discounted" sites, but they're hard to come by.

5) How many days will we need to see what we want to see? I am 62 and she is 57 if this makes any difference.

I'd say plan at least a week. That way you won't be pushing to try
and take everything in, you can enjoy the parks at a more leisurely
pace.

Lastly: If you have some flexibility in your schedule, we highly recommend the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. (You do not want to be there the week of either). This for the very reasons you state, good weather and lower crowds. The parks are also in full Christmas mode then, the parks will be decorated to the hilt, and you won't believe the lengths many of the Ft Wilderness residents will go to decorating their sites. The Ft becomes an attraction in its own right.

Gotta be careful on where you get tickets. The very first time a ticket is used, they take your finger print. So the next time you enter a park, your ticket must your fingerprint. I saw numerous families that had their tickets mixed up and it took a while to match them up. Really slowed entry down.

I do not understand that statement.

I've been to Fort Wilderness the last two years. Each time with 3 Great Danes. Never had a problem. Usually try to get close to the dog park on the 500 loop.

Their rules for pets are no more restrictive than most places, and more generous than others. I've been turn away from other campgrounds because my dogs are big! Ft Wilderness has never had a problem.

Oooops!

I see you already responded.

To the OP...

Fort Wilderness would always be my first choice. In fact, if I'm going to Disney World, it's my only choice. The DW won't go if she can't stay at the Fort.

We just returned from Florida. We tried for months to get reservations at Fort Wilderness. Could not get in. Make sure you call early. We ended staying at Tropical Palms. Not bad, but NOT Disney !

If you haven't been there's videos of ft wilderness on YouTube to give you an idea. I'm guessing y'all seen the hoop de too revue or eaten at the Columbia restaurant in downtown celebration?

Maybe this will help. Attached are a couple of pictures from our last trip that show our RV on a typical premium site at the Fort. The car is a rental from Budget located on WDW property and the golf cart is a WDW rental. I cannot remember how far out you can reserve golf carts however I can say that I set a calendar reminder and call the day that I can reserve a cart. They go really fast.

You can also call companies like diesel's golf cart, I believe they are a bit cheaper, but it gives you another option if Disney's are booked. Not sure haven't used them but heard of them. Just giving the idea. Not endorsed since not used and validated another member may be able to help.

Fort Wilderness

Stayed at FW with my wife, daughter, 2 granddaugters and 1 dog. The kennel closed at 9 PM and I would come back to and get the dog, drive the golf cart back to our site and relax him until the ladies finished enjoying the parks. I would then pick them up with the golf cart. They could have more easily ridden the bus which stops at each campground loop. It was a wonderful experience, would not trade it for the world.

I want to go back.
