Capt. Joe,
No camping suggestions from me but I would recommend a stop at 'Glades NP Shark Valley. Believe they have both Airboat and tram tours. Lots of "nature" sightings.
Miccosukee Indian Village also has AB tours.
At Oasis Range Station you have a good chance to see gators close-up.
At Everglades City we did a regular boat tour out to the mangrove jungle and also a bus tour to the interior. Never knew gators liked marshmallows 'til that trip!

The driver put scoops of dog food at a feeding station on a tree on the way in. Coming back out there was a mama bear and three cubs eating it. Saw feral pigs too.
