RV Park in Palo Duro Canyon area

Does anyone have a preferred RV park in the Palo Duro Canyon area?

What is wrong with Palo Duro State Park? Otherwise stay in Canyon, Texas or Amarillo.

Ken, I certainly did not mean to imply anything was wrong with the State Park, but never having been there I just thought I'd ask what people preferred from past experience

The St Park in the Canyon is very nice. We have stayed there twice. There are a couple of campground areas to choose from and even full hook ups and a few pull ins. Also some covered tables. Also can see a lot of wild life come out in the evening including flocks of turkeys. The entrance is steep and lots of hair pin turns.

We love staying in the State Park. We always ask for a campsite in the very last camping loop just before the equine section. If you are staying in the area a longer time, and have things to do you may not want to stay in the park. It is a bit far in from Amarillo by the time you get all the way down in the canyon. I sure would not miss this if you have never camped here before.

Yes, it is a very nice park with good RV sites. We stayed there a few days. The road in is steep and curvy but very doable. As I recall there is a commercial RV park around Canyon, TX or on the road to the State Park from Canyon, but I would prefer the State Park.

Check Reviews of RV Parks and Campgrounds - RV Park Reviews We stayed at Silver Wind RV Park when visiting Palo Duro due to a late planned trip and no availability in Palo Duro State Park. As you will see in the reviews, Silver Wind RV Park has very limited amenities, yet does have full hookups and is not far from the BEAUTIFUL Palo Duro state park.

We stayed in the Sagebrush Camp inside the park...dang, it was hot. Sagebrush has 30/50 amp service...we NEEDED those two A/Cs. We had a covered picnic table and lots of room. All in all, a very nice stay in the park.

Here's another vote for staying in the state park.

We loved Palo Duro State Park. It was absolutely beautiful, lots of hiking! We were there in November I believe. If you need cell or internet service you will not get it in this park. I do have Verizon and I didn't get anything until we were back in town. If you can get by for a couple of days without it, this park is well worth it!

Another vote for State park CG.... We stayed there the end of July 2013 and went to the play ..... Both were fantastic.... The drive in and out of the park is great.... Great biking and hiking ... Watch for rattlesnakes that come out after dark when it cools down a little....

Not a good recommendation on a campground but do check out the Free RV museum in Amarillo, Caddilac Ranch is a quick stop nearby also. Palo d State Park has a steep descent into but is doable
