My DW is a travel nurse & has taken an assignment at Kaiser South Sacramento Hospital. Has anyone stayed at an rv park or mobile home/ rv park in the area. I have checked several that I could find online, some with bad reviews & some with mediocre reviews. I know how reviews go most people don't seem to post when every thing is good, but definitely post when things are not. If you stayed some where in or near Sacramento and felt safe & had a good experience please help us with your suggestions. TIA

dsbike Calexpo fair grounds has a rv park and there is a koa just out side of sac on hyway50 however I have not stayed at them hope this helps

We just stayed at Flag City, at the 5 and the 12. (Lodi) It is South of Sacramento but a good half hour to 45 minute drive to Sacramento. Very nice park, well maintained, we were comfortable and would/will still again. CalExpo has an RV park. We have stayed often, actually it is a parking lot will full hookups. Showers and rest facilities are kept locked but you are given a key. The area is patrolled regularly by City Police, State Police, Cal Expo Police, and Rangers. You get a lot of security because it is a State operated facility. Not much to boast about, be definitely centrally located. We now often stay in Vacaville, at the Vineyard RV park. It is just a mile or so from our friends house. Lovely shaded park, with rustic but very clean facilities. Great place to stay, but it is a good 45 minute drive to Sacramento. It is located a stones throw from Kaiser's Vacaville facility. Depending on your shift, this would be my first choice, if you have to travel during rush hour...maybe not. The KOA to the East in Placerville is also very nice, rustic, but very nice and friendly. Only one exit from the Indian Casino. Again, a good 45 minute drive to downtown Sac. on the 50. There is a KOA listed in South Sac, but we have driven through it a couple of time to check it out and I was not impressed (at all), never stayed there.

I stayed at the KAO in West Sacramento off Highway 50, but it was a few years ago. Had no problems with the place, just typical KAO (I believe they all are overpriced). As kalynzoo stated CalExpo has a RV park and it is nothing but a large parking lot. I've never stayed there, but know the area very well. Lived in South Sacramento for seven years.

We've stayed at KOA West Sacramento on I80 several times. It's OK.

Calexpo is OK too, although it gets the cake for some of the most UNlevel sites I've ever seen.

Flag City is a nice park too, we've been there several times but a bit of a drive to Sacramento.

Now we stay at the Elks Lodge in Carmichael but it doesn't have sewer connections, just a dump station.

Thanks for the suggestions. My concerns with CalExpo is my DW will be working 3pm-3am Sat, Sun, & Mon for 3 months. The state fair is there in July & I know she would not get much rest during that time frame due to the activities surrounding the area. The KOA west does not offer 50amp for long term. Didn't think to look at Lodi, forgot they had an RV park, we were in Stockton on assignment several years ago. I did look at Vacaville The Vineyards and will have to see how she feels about that commute.

We stay at Flag City Great Park a little pricey but all parks in california near large citys are.

If you are looking as far away as Stockton, I strongly suggest you consider the KOA in Shingle Springs (slightly west of Placerville), or the Far Horizons 49er RV park in Plymouth, CA. Both are about 35 minutes from Kaiser south if not driving during rush hour (via Us50/Grant Line Road for the former, and Highway 16/Grant Line Road for the latter). The reason I make these suggestions is both are quiet, rural, and away from the areas that pose potential safety issues (especially with your wife coming home from work at 3:00 a.m.; she'll see enough in the ER weekend shift at South Sac Kaiser without seeing it in her RV park). You have already noted the noise issues from the state fair at CalExpo, but it is also located adjacent to the homeless encampments on the American River. I know many good people live in Stockton, but Stockton's level of crime (much like large portions of South Sacramento), make many of us uncomfortable.

I was looking at RV Park Reviews and saw this place. It's advertised as a "55" park but I've stayed at some without being asked for I.D. I think they are generally just looking for a "quieter" crowd. This park is located close to where your wife would be working and looks very secure. Lots of restaurants close by within walking distance too. I have not stayed there but it looks clean and most of the reviews are good.

We've stayed at Mark J. Good place. Minimum one week stay. Came in for one, stayed for two. We've also stayed at Expo & Flag City. Flag is the nicest of the 3 but further away & more expensive. They do honor Passport America at times. The Sac area is hurting for RV parks. Mark J is our preference for multiple day stays. They do want the "quieter crowd". Let them know your situation, it should not be a problem.

Mark J & Flag City are on our list to check out. We will be passing thru SAC 2 weeks before we actually need to return & she goes to work. Coulter, you seem to be suggesting places we would tend to go to first if available. I will definitely check these out. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Engineer Mike,

I would not recommend Tower Park...it's a dump. Last time I was there was winter time- mud all over. Sketchy folks in and out. Too bad that even though it's right on the Delta- you sit on the other side of the levy (a common situation) in this part of the bay area. Just fyi- if you want a really true great stay right on the river we've been going here for decades...you cant beat it. The other place right on the San Joaquin is River Point landing in Stockton but there's no sewer hookup at the site, only a dump station as you exit.
