RV Park or Campground at MT Rushmore
Been searching the posts here and wondering what campground or RV Park you liked the best near MT Rushmore and surrounding area?
As I can see so far, Rafters J gets many likes as well as the KOA.
We are traveling from MA to SD taking the Northern route.
Quick chime requested to your favorite place and maybe why.
Thanks in advance

Two years ago we stayed at Custer State Park, very nice! This year we are planning to stay at Beaver Lake CG with a bunch of friends, for 2 weeks, late Aug. till the 5th of Sept.
Many choices in the area, so read the reviews, and call for reservations as they fill up fast in the prime camping season! Remember the Sturgis rally, in Aug.!
Have a good time, enjoy the area, lots to see and do! Rail!

Rafter J Bar. Been there twice in last 3 years.
A bit pricy, but super clean campground, very spread out with large spaces.
Central to everything in the area.

We've stayed at the KOA in Custer to the south of Rushmore, the Rafter J Bar right near Rushmore and Elkhorn Ridge in Spearfish, to the north of Rushmore. The Rafter J is the most centrally located to see Rushmore and down to Custer or up to Deadwood. Sites are open or wooded and very spacious. They have a nice pool and many activities.
Custer SP is beautiful but a long drive to the northern areas you'd want to see. Elkhorn is a true RV Resort, with a beautiful pool and large spaces, but it's a long drive to Custer and areas south of Custer.
I guess it would depend on exactly how much time you have and what you want to see.

We stayed at Beaver Lake Campground https://www.beaverlakecampground.net/ and found it to be a nice place. It is near the KOA on the West side of Custer. As there is a lot to see it is centrally located to visit Jewel Caves NM, Crazy Horse Monument, Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, Needles Highway, and Iron Mountain Road. We took the Iron Mountain Road to Mount Rushmore and the Needles Highway back both well worth it rather than the direct route.

We liked Big Pine Campground in Custer. Easy to get to all the attractions. Site 29 is nice and big.

We will look at all the websites to the places you suggest, thanks again for these.
I'm going to start a post in the pet section about doggy daycare possibilities in the MT Rushmore area. Anyone know if any of the campgrounds you suggested have inside pet daycare?
Thanks
Normy

We just had a 4 day stay at Crooked Creek RV Park in Hill City, SD. Sites are close together yet great pool, facilities nice, great pancake breakfast restaurant and burger barn. Close to the monuments and the town of Hill City is a cute old town.

We spent a week at Rapid City RV Park. Nice campground and close to Rushmore, Sturgis, Deadwood, Custer, Walmart and restaurants.

We stated at Elkhorn Ridge to explore the northern areas, including Devil's Tower, and Rafter J Bar and Broken Arrow Horse Camp & RV (different trips) for the southern part and would stay at all again.

We spent a week at Rushmore Shadows Resort. We liked it because it was clean, spacious, and close to town.
