We are beginning "Full-Timers" and want to spend the later parts of Dec, Jan & early Feb between Port Isabel and other Valley locations. We would like a larger park with WI-FI and want to be able to check other parks out while there. We would really like to move around the area to see what we like the best. We have a 33 ft 5th wheel. Are there usually open spots for people without reservations or are we really taking a chance we will probably regret?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks, OneLuckyGuy

I think that many of the parks in the valley fill up with the snowbirds that flock to that area of south Texas. The only park that I personally know of is the Destination RV Park on South Padre Island. It is very nice, but does seem to fill up in the winter season.

We have spent the last five years at Tropic Star in Pharr. It is big, WIFI is available (at a cost) and there are lots of amenities. There seem to be lots of spaces available without a reservation.

We stayed at Bentsen Palm Village RV Resort in Mission, TX (in The Valley) this past March, and have reservations again for the same time period in '07. However, we're building our retirement home and might not be able to keep our 2-week reservations.

It is a beautiful park...with free wi-fi capability inside the RV. I highly recommend it as a place to stay.

The phone number is (956) 585-5568 or (877) 247-3727 (toll-free). Their website is www.bentsenpalmvillage.com.
They had lots of activities and are really geared for full-timers as well. There are lots of things to do around the area. The flea market with its veggie vendors is a must-do! HUGE 1015 (sweet) onions = 3 for $1.50!! What a deal!

Check it out. Hope this helps.

imoa there are not any nice parks in port isabel. on the islane the destination is $300+ a week but very nice. the county park is $144 a week. call for the monthly rate.
we made a couple of trips and put them on our blog. for dec go to sunrv.com and get the coupon for the $189 deal. we are probably going to llano grande in mercedes for dec. free wifi and close golf and some elbow room.

You may want to check reviews on some of the parks at the below rv park reviews site. It is helpful to us.

My payoff to promoting these sites are strictly selfish. I like to know folks experiences when I go searching for a park in our travels. I do not, repeat, do not get any financial gain from these sites.

Happy Hunting -

we used the sites when searching for a park in the valley and with input from tripalot, found Mission Gardens, no surprises, came for a few days and will stay a month.
