Rv parks/campgrounds recommendations near Michigan tourist towns

Hi folks,

My wife and I often travel to places like Detroit and Ann Arbor for concerts and other events, normally we stay in hotels. Can anyone recommend rv parks or campground near Michigan towns within walking, cycling or taxi/Uber distance?

I know Frankenmuth and Traverse city, Marquette, Munising and Sault St Marie have parks near the towns.

Has anyone any recommendations of both camp grounds and towns to visit?

Thanks,

Stephen

Last fall, we spent several days at Markin Glen County Park in Kalamazoo. Kalamazoo has an extensive paved bike trail (Kalamazoo River Valley Trail) that's accessed just outside the park. We biked into town most days for either lunch or dinner.

The park has cement pads & all are fhu.

Closest state parks near Detroit are Pontiac Lake State Park and Proud Lake State Recreation Area. Both are in northwest suburbs and 45 minutes from downtown. Both are great parks.

About 4 years ago, my wife & I made a trip to Mich. from Ohio. We traveled up the west coast and back home down the east coast. It was probably the best camping trip we ever took. One of the campgrounds we stayed at was called Vacation Station in Ludington. Close by was the Badger ferry that takes you over to Manitwoc Wisconsin. Also the town of Ludington was a neat little place to visit. We drove our tow vehicle up & down the coast and visited several places. Sand dunes, lighthouses ect. Hopefully soon we will make that trip again.

Magnus park or KOA in Petosky are wonderful. Lots of great bike trails and entertainment, much of it free, in Petosky and surrounding towns. We stayed the entire summer of 2016 and loved it!

Another state park close to Detroit and Port Huron is Algonac state park on St Clair River.

In South Haven which is a nice town itself and also near Saugatuck, we stayed in a nice CG that was one of those condo parks that rents spaces to non-owners. It was nice and had a nice small lake, pool, clubhouse, etc. I can't remember its name but you would find it by searching CGs in South Haven.

That was probably Sunny Brook RV Resort. You can see my photos & read my review. Those were done when it was new, so I'm sure they've improved a lot since then.
