It is out a bit, but I liked Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve. At least it was nice a few years ago.

San Diego Metro KOA Chula Vista. IMO centrally located, properly priced, nice level sites with grass and trees, clean and sites well spaced. Has a doggie playground.

Go to www.campgroundreviews.com
Click on the state and then the city.
We use it all the time, great resource.
Honest reviews, connects you to their website along with phone numbers, prices etc....
also in addition to San Diego look for close by areas, there are tons and close to alot of fun thing. San Diego is my hometown!! yeah.

My vote goes for Santee Lakes too. We stayed there for 2 months before we went fulltiming and really enjoyed the green and lakes. Going back there this winter.

If you need something closer to town the Metro KOA or Chula Vista RV Resort are probably the best rated.

Chula Vista RV--located near a Marina very well maintained, a huge public park surrounds it, nice restaurants close by overlooking marina, dog friendly. North in Temecula there is Pechanga RV on the grounds of an Indian Casino---the park is really quite nice. Temecula is a nice town.

Santee Lakes is one of our favorite campgrounds. Its an easy drive in to San Diego even though it is a few miles.
