When the wife and I stayed there two years ago, we stayed at Tunnel Mountain Campground, Banff Alberta | Banff National Park.

It was the middle of July and the low temp there was in the lower 40s.

Moral of the story, dress warmer than you think you need.

We stayed at a park in Canmore, which is adjacent to Banff. It worked out well for visiting Banff and all the surrounding places.

Another vote for Tunnel Mountain. We stayed here for a few days and explored the area. We then moved north to Lake Louise. And stayed here:

We day tripped in a rental (no toad on that trip) to Jasper, Alberta on Ice Fields Parkway. I was concerned about taking the rig on that road. I was so wrong. The rig would have handled beautifully. Next time we are in the area, we will stay at a few of the campgrounds along the Parkway for three or four days each in order to really enjoy the area.

Here is a pic taken along the Ice Fields Parkway (we were there in September '15):

I am thinking of revisiting the Banff and Jasper area this summer, in spit f the crowds. My question relates to the route from there to Vancouver and Seattle. I believe it is Canada Rte. 1 that goes west through Canmore, Banff and Jasper. How are the roads from Jasper, across the Rockies to Vancouver? My wife will not drive on US I-70 across the Rockies again, so I always take I-80 or I-90. Are the Canada routes from Banff to Vancouver more like I-70 or more like I-90?
