Just west of Pueblo there is a small town in a valley along Hwy.50 If you have the time stop and fish on the Arkansas river, the fly fishing is great for rainbows and browns. After you can soak in the hot springs in town or go up to chalk creek near nathrop. The town also has art gallery's for those who love the arts. There's even and old mining town to explore as you make your way up to chalk creek. Colorado has many campgrounds and beauty so I hope you can take the time and find out for yourself. you can't stop the dawn.

About four years ago we spent about a week camped on the bank of the Arkansas River at a little BLM area a mile east of Salida. Took trips to Canon City, Royal Gorge, Leadville, and a few more old mining towns. There is a lot to see and do in a days drive around Salida, and a lot in the town also. Really enjoyed our time there.

If you are into fly fishing, the caddis fly hatch in May is an unbelievable time to catch trout in the Arkansas river around Salida.
