San Diego, CA Area

We are looking for a park close to San Diego, CA to park our MH while we take a 30 day cruise out of SD and back in Nov. 2013. We also have a cat on board that we need to find a pet sitter for.
Ideally we would like to find a park that we can set-up for a week, then put it into a storage area for a month and then return and set-up for a week after.

Not at all familiar with the area, looking for suggestions.

RV Parks/Campgrounds vs. RV Storage are very different things in these parts.

There are quite a few RV parks in the area like Campland and Mission Bay Resort on Mission Bay, Santa Fe RV Resort (Rose Canyon), San Diego RV Resort (La Mesa) and the Metro KOA (Chula Vista).
Campland on the Bay, San Diego Camping, San Diego's Best Campground, RV, Tents
San Diego RV Parks, RV Parks California, RV Resort in San Diego, Mission Bay RV Resort > Home Mission Bay RV Resort
Home - Yea, there's Santa Fe tracks near, but no horn tootin' intersections.
San Diego RV Resort & RV Park | RV Park Resort in La Mesa, California - San Diego Area
San Diego Metro KOA | Camping in California | KOA Campgrounds

I live here, so I have never used any of these, but they are all usually very busy places = lots of customers.

RV Storage here is very expensive and hard to find. Maybe a phone call to these RV parks will give you a recommendation. And, if you know someone with U.S. Military benefits who can sponsor you, there's 2 huge RV storage lots at the Miramar.

The cruise ship piers are in San Diego Harbor - right in the middle of downtown...there's no RV parks near that, so you could pick any you like. The San Diego Trolly is good for getting around town, but don't expect it to go everywhere. The bus system (San Diego MTS) is not good for getting anywhere fast...a car is your best bet for sightseeing.

If you have anything specific to ask, feel free ask us and the Mrs. and I can check it out for you.

Good luck!

Santee Lakes

We have camped here several times. Nice campground and I noticed that they also have storage area.

We live in north San Diego area.

Santee Lakes is very nice and has large storage area, to included covered areas. http://www.santeelakes.com/

We use Stay At Home Pets for our two cats. Daneen Olsen @ 760.505.2658. Several years of positive experiences with her. Not sure if she does boarding, if not she can probably point you to someone reliable who does. Mention our names to her, Vince and Susan.

Thank you for the information. Looks like a bunch to choose from. We do have friends that live in SD that are ex military (not RV'ers) so thank you for that tip. They are away for a couple of months so thought I would post here also.
Thanks very much,

The San Diego KOA is about 10 miles south of downtown San Diego. The cruise ship ports are in downtown SD, and you could take the trolley or bus to the ports rather easily.

The KOA has large, long-term storage lots right behind the actual campground. You could camp and then store -- and later un-store -- your RV very easily!

There is a SD KOA coupon that I think is still valid for something like 20% off your stay. If you make advance registrations over the phone be sure to ask for that discount.
