San Diego Campgrounds
Looking to go to the San Diego area for a week in the middle of January. Everything is pretty pricey out there ( I know is is CA). Are there camping facilities at any of the casinos in that area?

We stayed here San Diego RV Parks, RV Parks California, RV Resort in San Diego, Mission Bay RV Resort > Home last winter and really liked it. It's handy to get downtown without having to use the interstate and you can get a site right on the bay if you want. Not the best campground we ever stayed at but OK for visiting San Deigo.

I stay and will be at the KOA in Chula Vista. Quick access to FRWY not more than 15 miinues from downtown, Balboa Park, and maybe 20 minutes to Mission Bay. We were there last year for a month and will return on Jan 8 for a month. A nice paved bike path ( about 5 miles long) very close.

I'm not sure about the casinos, but we have stayed at both Campland and Mission Bay RV parks. Both are located on the north side of Mission Bay and as stated by Gary N., easy access to all of San Diego. But, both these RV parks are older and their spaces are tight when it comes to slideouts and with full grown trees throughout. Both also have all of the needed hookups.

We have a grandson in San Diego that we visit at least twice a year. We have tried just about all of the area parks, and now only stay at Santee Lakes Park http://www.santeelakes.com/ Beautiful park with large sites and still close enough to do anything we want in San Diego.

You might check out Sweetwater county park. This is in San Diego county just east of Chula Vista. On my last visit they were upgrading the park and if completed should be a good spot.

Our daughter lives there so we visit often. Unless you want/need to be by the beach, Santee Lakes was tops in our book. Just a great facility and the new section is pretty roomy for big rigs.
She moved to Pacific Beach recently so we spent a week at Campland a couple of months ago. Ditto all the comments about it being older and tight. We ended up paying about $85/night to get one of their premium waterfront sites just to have room for our 40 footer and sat reception.
We'll probably be spending February in San Diego and will stay at Mission Bay this time. Their monthly rates were reasonable and it's pretty much all black top so will be clean during the rains.
But, Chula Vista is on our future list from everything I've been reading.
Good Luck...
Rick

Another one for Santee Lakes. We stayed there last Feb and it was very nice. Close to SD. Watch for coyotes though.

Both Santee Lakes, if on the lake, and Chula Vista are good choices. We have stayed at both.

Another vote for Santee here. We bought our rig while living in San Diego and tried almost every RV park in the area. Santee gets our vote as the best one.

If you want to camp at a great state park there is Silver Strand on Coronado island that is wonderful. Just go to California state parks in google and look for it.

Search Sunland RV Resort and you can go to San Diego RV Resort. Right on I 8 and in walking distance of the trolly that can take you to most any of the attractions in the area.
Stayed there this past spring for three weeks. Reasonable rates, concrete pads, and other aminities. A little tight for our rig, but no problems getting in & out.

Chula Vista RV Resort, one of their pull thru sites. Note, not my RV (I can only dream)
Santee Lakes, site on the lake. This one is ours.
Both are great places to stay.
