We're going to visit our son,a Marine at Miramar, for only 2 or 3 days with our Dobermans. Any suggestions? Santee? Thanks.

Santee Lakes is nice and reasonable in cost. Thousand Trails down at Otay Lakes (Pio Pico) is decent and reasonable in price. The beach places can be nice but get a bit more expensive.

Our daughter lived in SD for a couple of years and we loved staying at Santee Lakes. We also spent a week at Campland by the Bay... pricey but great location.

Good luck...

Rick

Lester - Santee is the closest to the base and a great place. Someone else mentioned Pio Pico a couple of posts ago. I stayed there for a week last month. If you are the Thousand Trails member you can stay there for free. I don't know if you are a vet, but if yes there is a wonderful oceanfront RV park in camp pendleton. Up the road from Miramar north a bit is the Pachanga Indian reservation /casino / RV park - quite a nice place. I could tell you 20 more if you want. There are a number of county and city and State RV parks in the area which are quite nice.

KOA in Chula vista is really a nice KOA a little pricey at 60 bucks a night but a great place to relax with large very well kept campsites easy to get to from both interstates 5 and 805 10 minutes from downtown San
deigo
Stayed there 11 Days this past summer will be back next year

I would choose Santee Lake also, very close to the Miramar base, like maybe 5-8 miles. Here is a link to the campground web site: http://santeelakes.com/

Santee Lakes is alright....KOA in Chula Vista ( San Diego Metro KOA ) is alright. There is Sweetwater Regional Park in Bonita,(about $25.00 a day) nice Campground Chula Vista Marina is nice but pricey.
