San Diego to Madison WI

Hello all,

I will be traveling to Madison WI before the snow flies and seek a descent route. Does someone here have experience with traveling such a route and be kind enough to share their experiences? I am a "newbie" and will be traveling alone.

Of course I will be camping along the way, and if anyone here can suggest a camp ground on this route, I would be grateful, as well.

Am a disabled veteran that can access all national parks and military reservations, therefore, I seek to camp at these places. Cheaper is better

Any advice and suggestions is greatly appreciated
