If it were I , and you have the time, I'd depart Portland going to the Oregon coast and take the most lovely drive down both the Oregon and California coast. I made this drive a few years ago and my wife and I enjoyed it very much. We even stayed on it south of frisco where it does get curvy part of the time but if you have the time there's probably no better scenic drive. We were driving a 32 foot winni then but wouldn't hesitate to drive the Monaco.

Leaving Portland tomorrow and going back to Eugene for a few more days then taking the 126 to the 101 and spending wednesday in coos bay. Haven't decided how far south we will go on the 101 before cutting across to the 5 but would like to be home by sat.
