Savannah Camping?

I did a search and read some older reviews of campgrounds but I'm wondering if there is any new opinions on RV camping close to Savannah?

Savannah Oaks, Skidaway State Park and Red Gate seem to be the preferred options.

Thanks!

If you don't need a resort, we like the Hunting Island SC state park. A little over an hour drive to Savannah. Electric and water (2 dump stations). Lots of Canadian (and US) snowbirds.
If you can get along with 30 amps, there are great beachside spots in the "A" loop (green). 50 amp (blue) is still a nice tropical jungle type area.http://www.southcarolinaparks.com/fi...undMap2012.pdf

But don't stay near the dumpsters (A20-22).

NICE park, we stayed there a week,
they only reserve you A site, not YOUR site...
once there you have to drive around in a golf cart to pick the site and hope someone doesn't come in to get that site by the time you get back

What type of rv you in?
there is Hilton Head Island motorcoach resort on the island, we went by it and it looked great too.

you will love savannah - we took both drive and drop tours and then just enjoyed the 'block' parks with 100 year old trees while the girls shopped !

Savannah South KOA is a nice park in Richmond Hills. If I recall it's about a 10 minute drive to downtown Savannah. Nice KOA on a beautiful lake.

Camp Lake Jasper

We stay here when visiting.. nice lake also.. the office will give you a free permit to fish in it.. It is a county lake so a permit is required.

I am one hour SOUTH of Savannah (I-95 Exit 49) we have two campgrounds here.. In Darien is Inland Harbor, Nice sites, All pull through, i think paved, Trees. Across the road from a 24 hour eatery (Waffle House)

And 3 miles north of that in Townsend is CatheadCreek Ranch.. No Trees, No shade, 1 Washing machine 1 Dryer (1.00/each per load) All pull through sites and I'm on site 12

We're in a Class A rig. We are going to Hilton Head after Savannah so I wouldn't mind something a bit closer.
Interesting comments on the KOA. When I searched the forum for campgrounds I read a couple of reviews that were not flattering and kind of crossed this one off the list. Maybe it has to go back on!

How about Skidaway Island State Park? Or Redgate Campground?

We stayed at Skid Away back in 2011. We loved it, rustic park in the woods. Large pull thru sites. 5-10 minutes to downtown.

Enjoy we love Savannah.

We stayed at Skidaway Island State Park last January. They have a short trail that goes out towards the inlet- nice to walk at sunset. When we stayed there, they had just renovated one of the bathrooms (near the back of the park), and it was nicer than the others, so we stayed in that section of the park.

We took the Olde Town Trolley Tour, and enjoyed it. We pretty much stayed on the trolley the whole time, but others got on and off. If you like nautical stuff, visit the "Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum. It's near the end of the trolley tour. Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum

We found "old" Savannah quite lovely. Have a great time!

We stayed at Savannah Oaks back in March - found out that St Patrick's day is a week-long celebration there! We enjoyed the "Hearse Tour" while we were there!

RedGate was a comfortable, easy campground. Pleasant surroundings and reasonable. Stayed there last year, toured the city and then went to Charelston.
