For those of you who live or camp in scorpion country, two questions. 1 What do I have to know about Class A camping near them? Do they get in? 2 What do I have to know about living in a S&B near them? Thanks.

We're in scorpion country all the time. We've never had one in the RV. In a house they can slip in under a door or any small entry. About the only thing to do is shake your shoes out in the morning if you have a habit of leaving them outside when RVing.

They can be found just about everywhere in the country - even Illinois. We just never think about them. It's no big deal. It's not like a big colony of ants moving around. They're not going to chase you or seek you out. Relax!

I think they are fairly easily controlled by pesticides. We really have never worried about them. We find one in the house (near San Antonio) occasionally. The variety here are only as bad as a bee sting. I just step on them with my shoes.

Never seen one in the Motor Home.

I always made a habit out of knocking my boots or shoes out before putting them on. They seem to like it in there.

The trickiest thing about scorpions is that it's very easy to confuse them with lobsters. Both species have relatively large grabby claws and curvy tails.

Look carefully at the creature's tail. If it curls upwards it is likely to be a scorpion; if downward, then probably a lobster. If you're still not sure after step one, step outside your RV and look around. If you can see an ocean nearby, chances are you're dealing with a lobster. Another dead giveaway is that you will rarely find a lobster in your shoe.

True funny story. I awoke one morning, pulled my shorts on from off the floor, and all of a sudden, I felt the burning pain. I started jumping and hollering and reaching into my shorts, at the same time Kris was at the vanity in the bathroom. She thought I was having convulsions from a seizure. He finally droped out the leg of my shorts but not before he got me on the inner thigh and on the palm of my hand. The one on the palm hurt the worst. I was so PO'd, I stomped him into scorpion paste.

We live with them, been stung by them, no ill effects, so far. We have a quarterly pest seervice, but they are very hard to control because supposedly they don't groom themselves. I think it may only slow them down a little. For some reason they like to crawl under the siding, up the walls, and into the attic. They are then attracted to the light fixtures. Nearly every globe or cloud light fixture in our home has a dead scorpion or two, at times. They get into the fixture and can't get out. They are like scorpion traps. My dogs will notice one in a fixture, when he is still alive and trying to climb out. The dogs are the best scorpion alarms. I assume they can smell them before they see them.

Also keep in mind that if you step on one and it appears dead, he's kidding. I got a tissue to pick it up to dispose in the toilet and the stinger was still very effective!
