We live a short drive from Jasper after 40 years it still amazes us the drive to Banff.
We do it every year to start our vacation. When we hit Banff its Katie Bar the Door as we don't know where we will end up. But no matter State side or Canada we meet the best people on the road.

You must take in the Cascade Mountain Range.

We just got back from that trip a month ago. Jasper to Banff along the Columbia Ice field highway. It's one of the most beautiful trips I've ever taken. Be sure to stop at the Athabasca falls. Spend the money and take the ice field tour. Stop at Lake Louise and don't miss Morane Lake. It's right near Lake Louise. There are lots of great restaurants in Canmore that are less expensive and not so crowded. We saw mountain goats, lots of deer and even a black bear. Enjoy!

We have been out that way twice now. Our favourite spots to camp are Whistlers campground in Jasper and Bow Valley campground just east of Canmore.

Any trouble getting a site there say in early June? Kind of have that one penciled in for our first stop on our way to Alaska next summer. Will stay for 2-3 nights on the way up.

canadians love to camp and Victoria day in may seemed to open the flood gates.
2-3 days will not do this area justice

Seeking info on Banff and surrounding areas

We went to both in May.

Definitely reserve a site.

Last year we were actually in both the week before the May long weekend. we reserved but they were both less than half full.

This year we went the 1st week of July and saw people getting turned away that didn't make reservations.
