We've only stayed in the area twice. Once in Gatlinburg, once in Sevierville. There are a multitude of nice parks near either, many of which have been discussed here already.

My only recommendation, assuming you're there to take in the park, is stay in or near Gatlinburg. The traffic between Sevierville and the park entrance can be killer, adding hours to your day that have nothing to do with enjoying the park.

I also recommend River Plantation. Actually, it was 2012 & 2006 iRV2 Nat'l Rallies held here.

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

We stayed 5 nights at Twin Creak just outside Gatlinburg in October. It was a very nice campground.

I was referring to Smokey Mountain national park.

I agree with Lori, Riverside Plantation was a nice park, it's just on the wrong side of all the tourist trap chaos, relative to the park.

pigeon forge opportunity

I think pine mountain is very nice but a little expensive. I like river plantation the best. River plantation is currently installing a lazy river.
