I've never been but I've heard good things about Pine Mountain Campground and Two Rivers Campground. They were recommended when we were thinking about going to Pigeon Forge.

We've been to a few. Pine Mountain is our favorite and it is the newest and probably most spacious one. It is associated with the hotel across the street so in the summer you can use their lazy river. Its far enough off the main street that you don't get a lot of noise. The next would be River Plantation. A large campground with level lots and some really nice ones on the creek/river. If you want to be near Dollywood and Splash Country then Bear Cove Village looks nice. We've never been there but plan on it next time we hit the parks. There is a KOA but we got tired of the crowds. Kids racing up and down the rows on those small mini bikes and battery operated things, people working on cars and no KOA people in sight. Oh well its in a good location and seems to stay busy. In any case check the calendar to see if it is a car rally weekend which happens a lot in the summer. You may or may not want to be there on that weekend. To each his own.

We stayed a week at Two Rivers Landing RV Resort. We liked it very much and would return. The campground is the closest CG off of I-40. This makes the entry and exit of the area easy.
The CG was not large. It was extremely clean, had a nice laundry room, large level concrete pads with paved interior road and well kept grounds. Half of the sites face the French Broad River and you pull in so you have a beautiful view out your front windshield window. Check out their website for further information.

Last year's IRV2 Nat'l Rally was held at River Plantation RV Park. It's a nice RV park. There's also Creekside RV Park in Pigeon Forge.
If you head up towards Cades Cove, there are some nice RV parks there, as well.
Hope this helps.

We have stayed at Ripplin Waters also. It is a very nice level campground with some awesome spots on the water. The only thing is thats there is a helicopter tour ride landing pad right across the 4 lane from it. Surprisingly its just far enough away that they don't bother you too much but you do notice them at first. After awhile they seem to fade into the background. Its a little farther away from the fun stuff so depending on the time of year you may be in bumper to bumper traffic trying to get into Pigeon Forge. We stayed there knowing we weren't going into town since we live in the area. If you are going to Dollywood there is a good 4 lane back road to take to avoid traffic.

Hi Exxonsailor,
Not knowing who your with or what you drive, consider The Dell at Hidden Mountain Resort. It is restricted to class A coaches. It is on Apple Valley road about 1 mile off the Parkway. This means the location is perfect for participating in the different shows and attractions on the Parkway. A right turn at the traffic light and you are right at the entertainment district. The Dell offers peace and quiet. Entertainment is on the Parkway.

Hi Exxonsailor,
Thanks for mentioning the 5ver. I recommend River Plantation. About 2 miles from The Dell. No Parkway noise. Easy in and out. Large CG with all the amenities. Go to River Plantation RV Resort - RVC Outdoor Destination and check it out. On the Parkway, a mile from Walmart Super Center and 2 miles to the entertainment district. It is tough to beat.
