We always stay at River Plantation when we are in this area. They are very friendly and have excellent campsites. Indiana Journey

Having stayed at River Plantation for the 2006 iRV2 National Rally, I'd recommend it. They've got some really nice/spacious sites that back to the river. The pull-thru's, although plenty long enough, are mostly full-sun because the trees at them are still pretty small.

While there, although we didn't stay at it, we drove through Riverside to check it out. The riversite sites appeared smaller than at River Plantation, but the park was just as nice.

I have to agree with the other posts about the traffic in this area. With all the attractions on Hwy 441,there were times it was so crowded that it took 20 minutes just to go a few blocks. However, as long as you're patient about the traffic, there's plenty to do in that area.

If you're looking for specific info about the area, post additional questions & our members will be glad to help you.

Hi All!

Hey Flametheus6, I also stayed at River Plantation for the 2006 iRV2 Rally and I agree with others on it, and I would stay there again when I go back to the area! Yes it was somewhat crowded on the roadway at times, but it was also in July which is there bussy seasone! Like others here have said take your time be awear of the traffic and have a good time !!

We stayed at River Plantation last year and would stay there again. It is a nice campground with fairly large sites, especially for a busy tourist area. April may be a little less crowded than when we were there in the fall.

Sevierville is fairly close to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and the Smokies.

What are you wanting to do while in the area?
There maybe a better option.

We have stayed at River Plantation and do not like to do so. Reason is, you have to fight traffic to get into Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg to do anything! We stayed at River Plantation a few weeks ago, thinking it would not be busy. We were wrong. The traffic was horrible. I do not think there is any "off season" there anymore. And, I cannot stand sitting in traffic.

We live 90 miles from Pigeon Forge/Gatinburg and spend alot of time down there. Due to the traffic issues getting into the Sevierville and Pigeon Forge area, we prefer to stay in the Townsend area (Little River) or the Cosby area (Great Smoky Jellystone). Both locations allow us to avoid sitting and sitting and sitting in traffic to get into Pigeon Forge. The Townsend area is beautiful and very close to the park. It is a 30 minute drive to Dollywood. However, it is a traffic free drive in a beautiful area. And, we bypass all the traffic getting into Pigeon Forge by staying at Jellystone. You are close to the Arts and Crafts District and you can take the "back way" to Pigeon Forge and avoid all of the traffic as well.

I have pics of a few campgrounds in my webshots if you are interested.

While in Sevierville we stay at Creekside Campground which is a Passport America Campground. It is clean and the people there are very nice plus it is off the main drag. There is also Kings Holly haven which is good too. In fact there are a few campgrounds on rt 321 which are OK. Clambough's is ok but they charge you extra for AC or heat etc.
If you can be without hookups you can go the the campground in Smoky Mountain Nat'l park on the south side og Gatlinburg. Enjoy.

I am writing this while sitting at Great Smoky Jellystone. The weather is beautiful. The creek is racing... the sound is wonderful. And, we got to miss all the crazy Sevierville/Pigeon Forge traffic. We are heading to Dollywood. The backway, so we miss all the traffic.

I have taken alot of pics this am of most of the sites, bathhouse, etc and will post them to my webshots on Sunday.
