Shasta Lake - Looking for a nice quiet campground near Shasta for July 2012

Howdy group,
My wife and I are looking for a nice quiet campground near Shasta for July 2012. I would like to fly fish the Upper Sac or some small streams, but I am not familiar with the area. Thanks.

Stayed at a CG on Lake Siskiyou several years back. Neat fireworks display from a barge on the lake on the 4th.

Go to the state website for state parks and look it up. You may be too late for reservations. Especially for the week of the 4th. I know most places in Washington have booked for weeks already.

Good Luck

Mt. Shasta KOA still has sites available, 36.00 base price per night.

Thanks gang! Yes, I've been told that Castle Crags State Park is great, but our State is broke, and they chose to punish us campers by CLOSING that park for all of 2012 ..., instead of cutting spending on...rant rant rant...
Is there good fly fishing near Castle Crags area??
Happy Easter

Wow I didn't know that the state is closing parks....now theres a concept for budget repairs..take away from the citizens that actually contribute and enjoy these beautiful parks.. I was never really that great at fly fishing, although I admire those that do..I do fish however. Its been years that I have been in that area but yes back then there was some great holes for drift fly fishing. While my boys and I were catching fish right out of camp, the biggest fish we seen caught that trip was by a fly fisherman and it appeared to be native as to planters. Its possible that those holes may be grown over now? My wife and I will be headed out in 3 few weeks to the Feather river for 1 week and then on to Collins lake for 3 weeks. And yes trout will be on the menu....Good luck with finding a location and happy fishing..
