Smiling River Campground, OR

I'm scoping out possible camping sites for a trip to WA & OR this Aug/Sept. We tend to avoid the "RV Resorts" unless there is nothing else available or we need to get water & dump tanks. I'm looking for something near Bend, OR and stumbled across Smiling River Campground which is NW of Bend about 40 miles and on a NF service road. There are sites big enough for us and from the sat. pic, it looks like some pretty good sized rigs are using it but I just wondered if anyone on iRV2 had been there and your thoughts on it.

the GPS coordinates are 44.474235, -121.635922. We have a Ventana DP that's 35' long & tow a Jeep.

Thanks!

One of my all time favorite areas. Sadly the last time we were there cost me a new roof and awning. Like a lot of NF camp grounds the roads are narrow and the trees have grown since it was built. Closer to Bend is Tumalo State Park, and about 25 miles south is Lapine State Park both offer full hookups at reasonable prices.

Sorry about your roof & awning! I'll check out the parks you mentioned. Thanks!

A decent place along with Tumalo and LaPine is City of Sisters Oregon
We overnighters there one time on a lark then drove into Sisters for breakfast the next morning. Just parked on one of the side roads and walked a few blocks. Sisters is really a neat little town.

We want to hang out near Sisters if we can. That's a cute CG! Tumalo is full for when we want to be there. La Pine has openings but I hope to find something closer to Bend &/or Sisters. There is Bend/Sisters RV Resort which looks really nice but is also pricey but less costly than a new roof!

It looks like we'll be in that area over Labor Day weekend which means it'll be crowded where ever we go and that we need to get reservations ASAP.

Thanks for the tip!
