Does anyone have any information on Elkmont Campground in the Smoky Mtn National Park? What is the Little River thru the park like? We have 27ft pad sight, 45ft driveway along the river (site D3) for this summer. Any information or photo locations would be great. Luck we got a waterfront site.

You might want to check out Rv Park Reviews.

Here is the link for the Gatlinburg area & Elkmont. I've not been but I always heard folks say it was fantastic. But if you are expecting an "RV Resort" you will be dissappointed. It is a Pubilc campground in every sense. There are no hook-ups and no showers. I understand they do enforce the genertor rules.

Take jackets, the high altitude means it get pretty cool in the evenings and when it rains.

Was there in 2001. Has to be one of the nicest campgrounds we've ever been to. No hookups.

And yes, the generator hours are strictly enforced.

The river is great! About 6" to 1ft deep. The dogs had a great time playing in the river.

We have camped in Elkmont 4 or 5 times. It is a beautiful campground. There are no hookups, or even showers. If you have an RV, be prepared to haul your water in containers. There is no dump station on site, it is located about 5 miles towards Gatlinburg and across from Sugarlands Visitor Center. Kids have fun tubing in the Little River running through the campground. A trolley to Gatlinburg makes regular trips to the campground. Take advantage of it for $1.00, as parking in Gatlinburg (or even driving through it for that matter) is difficult. Also lots of day hike opportunities.

Thanks for the information. Yes with have a TT with generator, but don't plan to use it much even though we are on a generator site along the river. We plan to do lots of hiking, fishing, and biking.

Well we are back from our Elkmont trip and it was absolutely perfect. We had great weather and the perfect campsite. We had river site D3 for six nights then extend our stay one more night but had to move down two sites to D6. This was a generator use area but almost no one used their generators. We tubed in the river but the was was a bit low. We walked thru old Elkmont and went at night to see the fire flies. We did several hikes to waterfalls, went to Clingmans Dome, did the Roaring fork motor trail (in a dually very tight but can be done), also rode our bikes on the 11 mile senic loop at Cades Cove. We will be sure to go back to Elkmont.
