Snowbird Options

I'm a former RVer but out of the game for a few years and miss it. My wife and I have been discussing ways to beat the winter and talked about buying a place in Florida and so forth. But I think a better option would be to purchase a class A and set up camp down there from Jan-April each year.

I mostly work at home with some travel, so I'd have to be near a major airport. She's an RN who is taking a break after her last assignment to finish up her Masters (just a few classes left). She will probably do per diem/temp and/or travel nursing so that may work out well for us as far as this plan (does work camping usually involve nurses/medical staff?).

Before we make the big investment, I want to make sure this will work out for us both, so I thought maybe for starters we could secure a rental RV in the Tampa area or further south for the month of Feb next year and give it a shot. Are there RV resorts that have nice class-A type rental units? Or homeowners who rent, a-la vacation rental homes on sites like vrbo.com? Anywhere else I should post this question?

Thanks for any help.

Check out Sun Resorts in Florida. Some of them have Park Models that they rent by the month. Eddie Elk.

There are quite a few traveling nurses. They find great paying temp positions for the season where they stay. I would suggest renting a seasonal place to see if the snowbird thing works for you. There are a gazillion homes, apartments, mobile homes, park models, etc. that folks rent out during the winter months in Florida. An internet search should reveal lots of choices.

Yup, I agree, especially with where you are thinking of going. As far as renting, would be willing to bet you could find a home to rent for what you would get an RV for?

We still have our RV, but because real estate pricing was (is?) so attractive, and the fact we fell in love with this area, we bought a place. Just finishing up our first year here.

Not a big fan of congestion, we looked for a place with more of an "out in the country" feel, that is still close enough in where commute times to the airport, groceries, big box stores wouldn't be too inconvenient. We ended up north of Tampa, in Citrus county. You might want to check it out.
