If you like open desert spaces, quiet and hiking (walking) and photography, take a look at the Maricopa County Regional Parks that encircle Phoenix. In most, you can see city lights at night, but during the day you feel like you are in some remote desert splendor. https://www.maricopacountyparks.org/

We spent March/April there last year. The desert flowers were exceptional!

When the wind blows the cow stench (feedlots) goes that direction and you may eventually get used to the smell. We didn't.

Tucson fairgrounds has full hookup sites and is very reasonable. Easy access to the city.

You also might want to check out Benson, AZ about 40 mi. east of Tucson for a laid-back small town but even a WalMart there.

It's close to Tombstone, Bisbee, Sierra Vista and Kartchner Caverns (highly recommend a tour of the caverns and of Bisbee's mine).

We have been staying at Fun and Sun, San Benito for the last 12 years. Lots to do, rc car track, dance hall ,pickle ball, wood working,swim, horseshoes, lots of free entertainment, sunday church sesrvices,library . pool hall, shuffle board indoor. No need to reserve as 1400 cites, never full

We spent six weeks in Texas last January and February. We're going back for eight weeks this winter.
We spent a week last year at the South Padre KOA. We've reserved a month this year. We also spent a week in Portland Texas just across the bay from Corpus Christi. This year well probably be in the area for two or three weeks. We're leaving more towards staying on Port Aransas Island.

There are hundreds of great resorts and it really depends on what you want to do there. For 10 years we have been going to the Bentsen Grove Resort in Mission, TX. Why? They have a fantastic variety of activities.

We are there for the Rock Club - gathering, cutting and polishing petrified wood, etc, I teach silversmithing and casting. We also do dichroic glass fusion and wood carving. Like other resorts they have first class entertainment, a WHY COOK food and much more. And of coarse the friends you develop over the years simply cannot be beat. Their website is RV Parks South Texas, Bentsen Grove Resort for Winter Texans in Mission Rio Grande Valley

Just do a search on the internet for Rio Grande Valley resorts and what each have to offer, plus consider the other recommendations on this site. Then consider either staying at one of them for the whole winter or perhaps a month in each of the ones you think would meet your needs. That will then help you decide where to go the next, and the next years.

Western way is great. great people, close to lots of things and right down the road from old tucson, where they shot and still do, movies.

And right next door is Justin's Diamond J. Virtually the same price as Desert Trails. However, few amenities, eg, no pool. However, the sites are MUCH larger. The activities at Diamond J are run by the guests except for the Monday morning coffee/donuts meet and greet and a monthly cook out put on by the owners. OH yea, the owners also do a Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner, providing the meat and potatoes/dressing and everyone else does a dish to pass. The park is smaller and more intimate and rural than the large resorts. Many snowbirds and regulars and friendships are forged. Depends on what one likes.

For either park, great hiking right out the back of the parks that goes on for miles. First BLM land, then county park then Saguaro National Park if you are really ambitious. And they are on the southwest outskirts of Tucson. Out in the country, but close to everything.

We stay at DJ every year for 4 or 5 months.

Picacho Peak RV Resort is about half way between Phoenix and Tucson. It is clean, Friendly and Reasonably Priced.

When travelling in the winter months always check not just the temperature, but also the elevation and the wind for the area. Texas and a lot of Arizona is too windy. Remember there is a 30 degree temperature swing between night and day, so it can get quite cool after the sun goes down. Arizona's "valley" region is such that you can leave your magazine on the table outside at night and it will still be there in the morning. You can go for a swim in the heated pools at night and not freeze when you get out because there is little or no wind.

Grocery prices in Mesa are very good - google the Superstition Springs Ranch Market - just down the street from Sun Life.

I recommend Sun Life RV Resort in Mesa Arizona. It is a Cal-Am Park that is amazingly clean and friendly with wonderful amenities.

Stayed in Rincon East for a month in Tucson. Great view of the mountains. Payed $741 plus electricity. Think it will be higher now. Good amenities and and friendly staff and campers. First time in our MH. Sites were ok in size.
Also stayed a week at a Calam resort in Mesa. Very big and again, very friendly and many amenities. Cant remember the name. Pickleball at both locations. Kinda a must for us.
