Snowbirds,

Does anyone winter over on the coast of South Carolina or Georgia. I know it wouldn't be near as warm as down in Florida but I would think that there would be a lot of days that would be comfortable a light jacket. Am I right? If so, can you recommend any campgrounds that stay open. I appreciate your info.

Thanks,

Mike

HI: there are several in the brunswick,ga to jacksonville,fl. i've never stayed over-just saw the signs along I-95.
check the campground directories. it's cool from sc/ga into no. fl. course a lot depends on your home area. cool to some is a warm day to another.
GOOD LUCK..

I haven't over wintered there, but I leave my MH for the winter in Hilton Head SC. We go down in November and then in March to pick it up. I watch the temp there frequently and the coldest lows are around 0 to -5. Average lows are around 45 to 50. Average highs in January run around 55 to 65. When it it goes below freezing only lasts a day or two. This week coming up it will be in the 70's. There are two campground's there. Hilton Head Motorcoach only for MH's. http://www.hiltonheadmotorcoachresort.com/
and the Hilton Head Harbour Resort http://www.hiltonheadharbor.com/

We just returned from our trip which included 5 days in Savannah GA and 5 days at Charleston SC.

It was a bit colder than normal while we were there, the temps were 30's at night and 50's during the day. From what people said this cold was usually short lived.

We stayed at Skidaway State Park in Savannah, no sewer. Then moved to Charleston/Mt Pleasant KOA. We visited Hilton Head which was in the middle between the 2 cities and found all the campgrounds open, in fact it looked like the CGs in this area were all open year around.

While it was definately not as warm as South Florida, it was much warmer that Massachusetts.

Hi All,

Hey Mike,

I spent 2 nights at Savannah Oaks and 2 nights at Country Oaks in Kinglsland GA. both places were nice and lots of stuff to do in both areas! The State parks there are also nice! Oh if you go to the St. Mary's waterfront near Kingsland the ferry to Cumberland Island does not run on Tue & Wed. which of course is when I was there,LOL! Enjoy !!

You might want to check Jekyll Island, GA. There is a campground there...it is more rustic that many 'RV resorts' but we met several folks who winter there. There are full hook ups, free wifi, and miles of paved bike paths on the island.
