Hi

We are planning on spending January and February 2012 in Southern California. Looking for RV Park recommendations. We are two adults, two small dogs in a 36 foot motorhome, with tow.

Feb 2011 - we spent time in LA area. Really liked Golden Shores RV Park as it was well suited for us (why: it is small, quiet, clean, right on the water).

For 2012, interested in spending one month in San Diego area and one month in LA area. We use www.rvparksreview A LOT (best resource out there that we have found so far) - but interested in comments/experiences of the folks here.

thanks everyone!
regards, pdq

For San Diego my favorite spot is Santee Lakes. Lots of space and green. We'll probably be there in Dec too!

PDQ, do you specifically want to be on the water? Is cost a large factor? We love Newport Dunes in Newport Beach. Also check the Huntington Beach area. There are a couple beach parks there. It's a really busy beach area so will be louder than Golden Shores but tons to do, easy access to bike path that goes for miles, etc.

Also in the LA area is Dockweiler Beach RV Park. A county park we haven't stayed at for quite a while but it's a great beach location.

I don't have any specific recommendations in SD but if you want to be near the beach, it is pricey.

We have stayed at Canyons RV Park off the 91 in Yorba Linda. It is close to the freeway so you get some noise, but has lots of trees and shade. About a 20 minute drive to Disney.

The beach parks are nice but expensive.

We live about 10 minutes from Golden Shores. Send me a private message if you want some suggestions of stuff to do around there or places to eat.

We took a guest on a blue whale watching trip last week and saw 4'blue whales. Largest animal to ever inhabit the earth 110 feet long and 350,000 pounds. One whale stayed on the surface for about 10 minutes and was 30 yards from the boat. A once in a lifetime experience.

I second this. A great park that is convenient to San Diego.

In the LA area it really depends on what you want to do. If you are looking for a nice, clean home base for touring the LA metropolitan area then Golden Shores is probably your best bet. We live here and greatly prefer Newport Dunes to Golden Shores but that is because we are going there to hang out at the beach and spend time at the campground. If I were coming from out of the area to see Hollywood, Disneyland, Venice Beach, etc. I would chose Golden Shores.

everyone - thank you the comments
really appreciate all

nope - don't have to be "on" the water - but do know we like to be close
i run every morning and one of the great things about Golden Shores was being able to run the seawall along the marina :-)

regards, pdq

Take a look at Campland on the Bay. It is located directly on Mission Bay and there is a bike/running trail that encircles the bay. It will take you all the way to Sea World. Another place is Silver Strand State Beach. There is a trail that runs from Imperial Beach to Coronado. Silver Strand is dry camping only.

I like Campland On The Bay for the ocean experience, but there is also some nice spots in the mountains. Check out the Julian/Lake Cuyamaca areas.
