I am traveling from Wisconsin to PA right after Christmas. South Bend is half-way. Noticed that you could take factory tours at Thor there @ 3pm everyday. Since that is the halfway point, we thought we would take the tour and spend the night boondocking in the area.
1. We have a 38ft Class A and no Toad - can I fit in the parking lot?
2. Can we overnight in the factory parking lot?
3. If the parking lot will not be available for overnighting, is there a free place to stay in the area?
We figured why rush all the way? Might as well try to enjoy the trip!

We were in ELKHART last February. Everything was closed, no campground was open. I guess it has to do with the 2 feet of snow and sub ZERO temps. Didn't try any factory tours. Most RV things were closed. Good Luck. By the way be very careful where you try to stay. MFGs and dealers are having a major theft problem in ELKHART.

The Elkhart, Ind., Police Department is asking the public’s assistance regarding several recent thefts. In the past month, officers have taken reports of thefts of catalytic converters from local RV companies. Anyone with information is being asked to contact Det. Tom DeWitt at 574-295-7076.

Dropframe - if you do make that trip, let us know some feedback. I was scheduled up there a couple weeks back but delayed that trip until spring.
I'd love to know if you learn anything of benefit for the rest of us Outlaw owners. My list of questions is getting longer every month!

What I learned at the Thor tour:
1. The answering service says the tours start dec. 26th but the plant is shut down until jan. 3rd.
2. The security guard was super nice and let us park in the customer service lot. We now have a free camp spot for the night with 50 amp hook ups.
3. There are 2 factory entrances. The entrance on the web site is for Thor. Damon is on the other side of the block and has its own tours separate from the Thor factory.
4. Does anyone have the Thor customer service password? I need wifi so I can watch some Hulu tonight!

Sounds like some of that you could have done without learning. I sure hope there's something else to do up there for a week while y'all are waiting.
