We plan on spending a couple of weeks (2-22/3-7), in the South Padre/Port Isabel, TX area are having trouble finding a park. KOA's are not our favorite and the one on the island is also sort of expensive. We called Long Island Village in Port Isabel which sounded nice but the lady we spoke with was anything but friendly and left us wondering how we would be treated if we stayed there. We know nothing about Isla Blanca Park on the island but it looks nice. Comments and suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,
RJ

We've stayed at the KOA at South Padre several times and enjoyed it emmensly. Pool is protected from the wind, kayak fished and had luck with reds and trout. Spots are close together but there are a ton of things to do right across the bridge and we tend to see everything we can historically. We've met a lot of great people there.

We went through Port Isabel a couple years ago, in the car, not w/ RV. Although we didn't enter any of the RV Parks, from what we saw from the main street the RV Parks were pretty run-down. More like mobile home parks with a few RV Sites. The only RV Park that looked decent was the large Isa Blanca County Park on the very southern end of Padre Island.

There are literally hundreds of RV parks in the rio Grand Valley, and as you mentioned just a few on the Island or Port Isabel. If it is your expectation to spend most of the time on the beach or among the Spring break crowd then the KOA is your best choice. However if you are hunting for the best weather that south Texas has to offer then staying along the Harlengen,to Mission strip is better ( usually a bit cooler against the water and maybe foggy) and will offer you many places to stay. You will, however be 50 miles + away from the gulf and what it has to offer.

We stayed at Isla Blanca last Apr. Nice park with controlled access. A LOT of people on weekends and/or holidays. We stayed in site S15 but if available, S23 would have been preferable to us.
