South Texas RV park referrals wanted

Going to go to south Texas for a month or so Jan-Feb. Never been down there before. Was hoping to get some suggestions on the best winter Texan parks in the RGV, Mission TX area. Looked at a few online, saw a lot of older looking parks, not that there's anything wrong with that but has anything been remodeled or newly developed. Looking for the "Land Cruise" experience. What has been the overall opinions of that area? If we like it we may want to go further west after and try Mesa AZ next. Thanks for your input. Dave

We rented a lot from an owner in Retama Village RV (newly developed and plush) a few years ago. Very, very nice. We had a ball in the RGV. Lots to see and do. Have fun!

Retama Village
We tried to get a lot in Retama. All the available lots are currently rented (when last I checked about two weeks ago), and everybody expects a full season (four month) rental. BUT: directly next door (and owned by the same guy) is Bentsen Palm RV resort. They have/had available spaces, and will rent for shorter periods. We're staying there for January and February. It's supposed to be almost as nice...

I agree, Bentsen Palm Village is very nice and yes, it is part of the same development. When we went to the RGV thats where we tried to get a lot. All lots were rented a year in advance, so we couldn't get in.

That's when we leased a lot in Retama Village. I see that there are three lots left for January, but as you say the owner may want a longer term rental. We rented our Retama lot for two months, January and February.

You will love Bentsen Palm Village. We would take walks into the Bentsen Palm State Park next door. All roads inside the park were closed to vehicular traffic at that time. Loved the bike paths around the park and the birds in the World Birding Center. It's in a great location, away from roads and train tracks but close to Mission and all of the amenities.

We just traveled south to Mission for the Thanksgiving weekend. Our first trip to the area and we were pleasantly surprised, more than we expected. We stayed at Bentsen Palm Village Resort and as others have mentioned, very nice park. We'll definitely visit the area again and will stay at BPV.

I posted thoughts about several RGV RV resorts here:

Bentsen Palm Resort

You should be able to find something nice, even with the short notice.

We are at Llano Grande Resort & Country Club in Mercedes, TX. This park has won the best large park in the RGV for 2015. They all kinds of planned activities in the park. They have a large new event center that is scheduled to open in January.
