We are looking for a summer cool spot in the southern New Mexico mountains.

Could you be a bit more specific? Are you talking about someplace like Gila Nat'l forest or somewhere else. Southern New Mexico will not be cool in the summer.

You could head up to Cloudcroft, Sacramento Mt. Lincoln National forest.

This is a great little campground and close by to the town of Cloudcroft.

Holidays are busy, hit it up in between holidays and you will have no problems.

Ive gone up the mountain with my 2005 Allegro Bay 37DB pulling my Jeep, its a 6% grade but not too long.

there are other campgrounds and also dispersed camping too.

True Southern NM will not be cool in the summer, but the OP is talking Mountains, so it will be plenty cool

Along with Cloudcroft there's Ruidoso. Silver City is also nice but warmer than the other two.

What we are looking for is a place to spend 3-4 months in summertime. We know it will have to be in mountains but have to consider that we have a 38' DP and tow a Jeep.

X2 for Cloudcroft & Ruidoso!! If you golf, you can really wack a ball at 8000ft up in Cloudcroft

When we lived in Artesia we used to go up there all the time, very nice in the summer time, good roads, but lots of people escaping the heat in the rest of NM

I think Inn of the Mountain Gods has an RV Park now....(Apache Indian Casino)

If you want 3-4 months you might also consider the Santa Fe/Taos area and even into Colorado at Pagosa Springs. Move around to see different areas. The above-mentioned towns of Cloudcroft/Ruidoso might become boring for that long of a time period. They are small areas.

Cloudcroft or Ruidoso are the only locations that will be cooler in southern NM. I would suggest to go up northern NM, such as Taos/Red River/Eagle Nest/Angel Fire or around other northern areas. Lot more to do there around Taos for 3-4 months. Also easy to daytrip around.
