Southwest recommendations for 2019
Next winter we're changing our winter trip from Florida to try out the southwest. Traveling via AL, MS, LA, and then, mainly TX via Houston, then south towards Brownsville, then to El Paso - Fort Davis and then to southern AZ. Please, any and all suggestions are welcome. Places to stay (particularly) or ones avoid, routes of travel, length of stays, or things not to miss. We're laying out the plan now so I'd like to get started with it. We'll leave MD the end of December and be in the Pensacola area by the first part of January and work our way west from there. Our length of time frame(s) is completely flexible. Thanks so much for any input at all.

You haven't said what types of things you enjoy, outdoors, city night life, etc.
For the southern New Mexico segment:
1. Check out Carlsbad Caverns NP
2. White Sands NM
3. The Space Museum in Alamogordo, NM
4. City of the Rocks State Park, near Deming, NM
In Arizona the Quartzsite RV experience is unique (just Google Quartzsite for a ton of info)
Enjoy and be safe...

We spent a January week at Cajun Palms near Lafayette, LA and really enjoyed the area. Cajun Palms is a first class place with Crawfish Town USA next door. Try Poche's for some fine Cajun food and meats.

RV parks in West TX are few, none great. Avoid Midland Odessa area most next to trains hourly. Monahans Sands St park is good. I10 thru NM, AZ many. CA expensive, many up 100% in last 2 years. Mid to east TX good on I20.

In Arizona DO NOT miss Antelope Canyon in Paige. It is the most amazing place I have ever been in the US. It is on Navajo land and you need a Navajo guide to visit. Be prepared to have your jaw dropping off the ground. Google it.

rarebear, thanks, you're right. We like outdoors, parks as opposed to resorts, sightseeing - almost anything, eating out, meeting and talking with local people. Our normal length of stay in one place is 7-10 days although I believe this trip will be different - if we go all the way to AZ, I'd like to stay there a bit. and look around some. Thanks again.
