Spanish Trail RV Park, Moab UT - Fraudulent Charge

Had a reservation with this park for 2 days starting 1 Sept ’13. When we arrived mid-day, my 92 year old father-in-law and I went to sign in. We were promptly told by the clerk that no reservation could be found under my last name, my first name or by the confirmation number assigned to my reservation. Moab has plenty of RV sites – so we went up the street to Moab RV Park– our stay at this park was terrific.

However, a few days later, I received a no-show charge of $56.53 (first night’s stay) from Spanish Trail RV Park. In numerous conversations with staff members, they made it clear that I indeed had a reservation in their system, that no staff member remembers me coming in that day and turning me away, that they have no idea what happened, and accused me of going to the wrong park, and/or just blowing them off. I looked at the GPS history, and I indeed came to the correct park.

After a week of getting the run-around, I finally reached the manager, who gave me the same story, and emphasized that they even posted after-hours parking instructions – therefore they did everything they could to accommodate me. They consider me a no-show - I will not get reimbursed. When I told the manager that I will be contacting my bank to dispute this charge, and that I would be posting my experience online, she told me “you have to do what you have to do”.

I’ve been full-timing for three years now. In that time, we have visited countless commercial, military, and national and state park campgrounds – we are VERY cognizant of the importance of making timely reservations, arriving at the park on time, giving the park a heads-up of a late arrival, or cancelling a reservation if things change. In all that time, we have NEVER experienced a screw-up on the reservation. And in all my years, I have never had a business accuse me of lying.

I will definitely NOT be going back to this park – you need to make your own decision!

Why did you go to Moab RV Park? If Spanish Trail couldn't find your reservation, why not just get a spot while you were there? Then this wouldn't have happened. They couldn't have said that you didn't show up. You would have been in the park. Strange...

Because I was told there was no room at the park.

On a side note, I just received a hand-written card from the Moab RV Park (the park we ended up staying at instead) thanking us for our stay and offering us 25% off our next stay. Now that's customer service!

Call the CC company and dispute the charges. Explain exactly what happened. You should get a credit refund, the just will not pay ST.

The worse you could get from trying is a "No.!" You could also be a little richer in the pocket.

I know it would be hard at the time, but after seeing so many of these disputes, if it is over $50.00, get it in writing!

At least get the name of the clerk.

A prime example of when you get told they don't have a reservation for you, even tho you have a reservation confirmation number, have them put it on paper and sign it. Then you have a document, and they cannot dispute their own signature.
